Spencer Schulz
Introducing New Orleans artist Spencer Schulz. Light and color in broad strokes characterize his impressionist paintings of bars, clubs and restaurants. He is a self-taught local artist, originally from Palm Harbor, Florida. Spencer initially gravitated towards the musical arts, playing guitar and singing in a heavy metal band with his brothers and composing electronic music. He attended Columbia University, where he played football and graduated with a degree in Economics, all the while continuing to write electronic music.. In 2007, Spencer moved to New Orleans to attend Tulane Law School and has lived in the city ever since.
His journey into painting began in the summer of 2012, Hurricane Isaac rolled through New Orleans; and he and his now-wife Georgia lost power. Bored and out of liquor, Georgia suggested they paint.
Spencer focuses primarily on capturing New Orleans’ nightlife. Using a bold, expressive, and colorful style, Spencer paints what he calls “love letters” to his favorite bars and music venues.
