I am an oil painter, originally from California’s Napa Valley. A lifelong doodler of portraits, urban landscapes, comics and illustrations, as well as a screen-printer and erstwhile designer, In 2007, I had my first solo exhibition in Redding California.
In 2011, I moved to Portland, Oregon and over the next five years enjoyed many exhibitions up and down the left coast, from Seattle, WA to Palm Springs, CA. Portland was an incredible inspiration and provided the spark for virtually every painting I completed in this prolific, beer-soaked period.
I recently felt the pull of the road again and said farewell to Portland and hello to New Orleans. Unexpectedly, my work changed virtually the minute I stepped out of the moving truck. My New Orleans based work portrays the real folks who populate the streets outside my door. The blues men. The buskers. The drag queens. The gutter punks. The street poets. The cleaning ladies. The ones who make New Orleans the brash, grimey, soulful city she is beneath the tourist facades and ghost tours of the French Quarter. These are the people I’m interested in. I want to show the stories, smiles, tears and memories in their faces. These folks matter to me. And if I’m doing my job, they’ll matter to you.
