PEG USNER

A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Peg Usner focuses her plein air oil painting on the beauty and bounty of subjects in the landscape and architecture of the Deep South.  The moss hanging from oaks along a lazy bayou, a bright summer sun on graceful facades or an egret in the shallows of Lake Pontchartrain, each inspires her impressionistic style.

Peg received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design at Louisiana Tech and her Master of Arts in History at the University of New Orleans.  Love of design and nature is evident in Peg’s professional and volunteer work. She was the first Artist in Residence at Longue Vue House and Gardens (2015-2018), and taught painting in that historic and beautiful setting. The St. Tammany Art Association has been displaying Peg’s works since 1997. Peg participates annually in the Abita Springs “En Plein Air” and in the New Iberia “Shadows on the Teche” plein air events

She continues to paint the beauty of Louisiana, most often St.Tammany Parish and New Orleans.  Being in Nature excites me. It’s not just the appeal of color, texture, line and light but the reaction of heightened senses and feel of the time or season. Projecting that onto canvas and bringing the observer to see and feel what that view brought to me, is my goal.  Focusing on the creative process as the moments unfold over just a few hours is an immersive experience that engages me entirely.
