John Killeen

Introducing self-taught artist John Killeen, originally from St. Louis.  With a background in architectural engineering, he finds inspiration in New Orleans architecture for his plein-air paintings.   Recently come to the practice of oil painting, Killeen previously explored techniques and motifs, traveling back and forth from the US to Europe.  After quarantining in Spain in 2019, he settled in New Orleans similarly intrigued by the “European flavor” of the Vieux Carre, as were those intrepid artists of the early twentieth century. His art has an elegant “soft-focus” which evokes a dreamy quality to even the most industrial landscapes.   Killeen has his home in the Bywater.
